Sisal Carpet is made from the bark of the sisal palm tree. It is considered by many people to be the best type of carpet. The sisal itself is very strong and able to grow up to 8 feet high and is able to tolerate high temperatures as well. Once the seed is ground up into a pulp then it can be fashioned into yarn and woven into different products including carpet, sisal rugs or even an artificial stair runner!
In the Americas, the sisal plant grows naturally on the mountains and plains of the Andes mountains. During the last Ice age, around 10 thousand years ago, when Spanish Conquistadors came back from their voyages, they took all of the sisal plants with them. Many of these plants were left behind, and today, they grow wild over a large area in the highlands of Peru and Bolivia. So, how many different types of Sisal Carpet are there? There are actually hundreds of different species of the agave plant. The longer fibers produced by the Agave plant are jute. These jute threads are strong, durable and also stain less easily. They are often used for things such as outdoor rugs and upholstery because they do not lose their shape and color like Sisal Carpet do. Jute is also a natural fiber, so it has a longer lifespan than most man made fibers.
Two main types of plant fibres
As mentioned before, there are two main types of plant fibres that you can find in Sisal Carpet. These two types are Asofolia and Pyracantha. So, which one will you be buying? They both look pretty much alike, but there are some major differences between the two types.
Most durable fiber
As stated above, Pyracantha has the strongest, toughest and most durable fiber. It is also the most colorful of the two varieties.
